Katherine Heigl in negotiations for Jim Henson Co. Movie

I mentioned this article in this week's podcast.  Tough Pigs is reporting the following about the Jim Henson Company movie, "Happytime Murders."

"It’s been a long, long time since we heard any news about Happytime Murders, the Jim Henson Company’s long in-development puppet murder mystery film.  Now here’s something from Variety: Katherine Heigl  (currently on the screen in One for the Money) is in “final negotiations” to star in the project alongside a cast of Henson puppets.  Cameron Diaz’s name was mentioned in connection to Happytime some time ago, so it seems pretty likely that Heigl is up for the same role."  Read the full Tough Pigs article at Katherine Heigl Might Be in That Henson Puppet Noir Movie.

Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey Now Playing

"Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey" is currently playing in five cities around the U.S. with more dates coming soon.  The filmmakers, Constance Marks and James Miller, describe their documentary in the following way.  "Beloved by children of all ages around the world, Elmo is an international icon. Few people know his creator, Kevin Clash, who dreamed of working with his idol, master puppeteer Jim Henson. Displaying his creativity and talent at a young age, Kevin ultimately found a home on Sesame Street. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, this documentary includes rare archival footage, interviews with Frank Oz, Rosie O’Donnell, Cheryl Henson, Joan Ganz Cooney and others and offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sesame Street and the Jim Henson Workshop."

More information about the documentary, the official trailer, screening dates and more can be found at the official site BeingElmo.com.

Randall King from The Winnipeg Free Press shares his thoughts about "Being Elmo," a documentary on the life & career of Muppeteer Kevin Clash.

"educational value is alive and lively in Being Elmo, a documentary on the life and career of Muppet puppeteer Kevin Clash. I can't imagine a child who wouldn't benefit from seeing this movie.

The lessons learned here sound like a motivational speaker's playbook: Work hard. Follow your dreams. Take chances. Be yourself. Pay no attention to the naysayers. Be loyal.

In his career, Clash has demonstrated all those qualities, and it took him to Elmo, one of the most popular (not to say lucrative) Muppet characters on all of Sesame Street."  You can read more of Randall King's article Just like adorable Muppet, doc is gentle, warm, fuzzy at The Winnipeg Free Press.

If you have a change check out a current or upcoming screening of the documentary and share you thoughts with The Muppets Podcast.

What Makes The Muppets Happy?

Have you every wondered what makes the Muppets happy?  Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Animal and Walter respond with what makes them happy in a new article from Time Out.

"What makes Kermit happy…‘Being with my friends. Whether we’re making a movie, putting on a show or just hanging together trying to figure how to get Gonzo out of that huge vat of radioactive tapioca, we have fun together… and that’s the best feeling in the world.’

What makes Miss Piggy happy…‘Moi’s frog. Kermie is the be-all-and-end-all of my life… Though chocolate, jewelry, shoes and my new movie come in a very close second.’

What makes Gonzo happy…‘Bog snorkeling with my beloved Camilla the Chicken! You haven’t lived until you've snorkelled a bog with a chicken… A word to the wise: Never snorkel in radioactive tapioca. Big mistake.’"     Read the rest at Time Out.
